Dr. Steve Newman is originally from Sumter, S.C. He attended Wofford College as a Benjamin Wofford scholar, graduating magna cum laude with a B.S. in Biology. While at Wofford, Dr. Newman was actively involved in a variety of organizations including serving as a delegate to Campus Union, a member of Blue Key honor society, Kappa Alpha fraternity, Campus Christian Fellowship and Young Life. He also enjoyed volunteering with Meals on Wheels as well as participating in an after school tutoring program for underprivileged children. In addition, during his freshman year of college, he was honored by being selected into the Early Acceptance Program at the Medical University of South Carolina School of Medicine.
During his medical school training, Dr. Newman received a student summer research grant from the Storm Eye Institute, worked at the Institute of Psychiatry as a student professional assistant, served on the student alumni board, and volunteered at the Charleston homeless shelter.
Dr. Newman continued his medical training at the Greenville Hospital System completing a residency in Family Medicine. As an intern in his residency he was privileged to receive the Lily and G.D. Jackson Award "as a young physician of exceptional promise".
Upon completing residency Dr. Newman has served as Vice Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at the Greenville Hospital System, chairman of the Medical Staff Performance Improvement Committee, chairman of the Medical Executive Committee; as well as, President of the Medical Staff at the Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center. He volunteers regularly at the Greenville Free Medical Clinic, serving on its board of directors where he currently functions as its chairman.
Dr.Newman also is a co-founder of NuLifeRx-an innovative medical company whose focus is on disease prevention and the promotion of health and wellness. He and his family are active members of the Greenville ARP church. In his spare time he enjoys music, cooking, spending time with his family and being outdoors.
